Human Resources Management has been a part of organizations since the very beginning of the management concepts. HRM has aimed to maintain the human resources of an organization and facilitate employee decorum and growth. Although HRM already deals with filling up manpower requirements at the right place and at the right time – talent management is a relatively new concept that clubs together certain HR processes to attract, develop and retain employees. Talent Management has been, over the years, developing into a proper type of management that is being adopted by organizations to hire efficiently and retain their manpower Although HRM and Talent Management both play roles in hiring and retaining employees – there are certain key factors that make them both different from each other. HRM is closely related to administration while Talent Management is more focused on the manpower retention HRM not only deals with the hiring and retention, but also deals with the day-to-day woes and responsibilities pertaining to the existing manpower while Talent Management is more closely related to the organizational goals and is responsible for bringing in the required manpower and also retaining it. Talent solution focusses more on motivating and encouraging the co-workers in the organizational environment. HRM is Tactical while Talent Management is Strategic The HR department is responsible for formulating effective policies that are beneficial for the employees, calculate pay and benefits, track attendance, vacations, etc. Talent Management, on the other hand, is solely dedicated to attracting new talent and hiring, developing and retaining it. Talent Management is responsible for bringing in top talent which in turn improves the productivity of the organization. Talent Management focusses more on the development of the employees Although HR department, too, focusses on the development of employees, but Talent Management specializes in holding such trainings and seminars that can facilitate employee development. Talent Management’s core job is to make sure that the employees that have been hired are given appropriate opportunities and are trained well enough to grow in their career. There seems to be a thin line between HRM and Talent Management and often, people don’t seem to understand the core difference between them. But, Talent Management takes up tasks from HRM and specializes in them in order to extract the maximum amount of potential from the existing employees, getting in new employees, developing the existing manpower by organizing trainings, etc and making sure that all the co-workers of the organization – especially the managers – are a part of the Talent Management.
